Balancing your model airplane propellers will give you better performance and help your equipment last longer. Don't worry if you've never done it before. We have a few tips to help you balance nylon and wood 2-blade props using our Tru-Spin Balancer.
Nylon Props:
- Clean any flash that may be on the blades and hub with 200-grit sandpaper.
- Prepare the prop for mounting on your model (ream the hub or install spacers as required).
- Set both side plates of the balancer to the same height.
- Mount the prop on the balancer shaft.
- Set the balancer shaft on the side plates.
- Hold the prop horizontal and gently release.
- The heavy blade will rotate downward. Mark the back side of the heavy blade with a marker.
- Add small pieces of tape to the back side of the light blade until the prop remains horizontal when released.
Wood Props:
- Prepare the prop for mounting on your model (ream the hub or install spacers as required).
- Set both side plates of the balancer to the same height.
- Mount the prop on the balancer shaft.
- Set the balancer shaft on the side plates.
- Hold the prop horizontal and gently release.
- The heavy blade will rotate downward. Mark the back side of the heavy blade with a marker.
- Carefully remove material from the back side of the heavy blade using 200-grit sandpaper.
- Remove small amounts of material at a time and re-check the balance often.
- The propeller is balanced when it remains horizontal when released.
